MatterMaker is an art & design labratory founded by Josef Ahlers. It is a private family-owned business located in the heart of Santa Monica, CA. Josef is an eccentric inventor, designer, & builder holding 2 U.S. patents for his furniture designs.
Our process
The discovery of MatterMaker’s creative process began with the combination of “being mindful of what you pay attention to” and the founder’s personal experience with homelessness. Seeing shopping carts abandoned throughout neighborhoods spurred an interest in upcycling the material and finding a new creative use. The VegaBond Chair was born.
